Giving, in the spirit of our namesake
Sir William Harpur gave his fortune to Bedford. We try to follow his lead.
How we give
Charity is at the heart of Freemasonry. The Lodge supports local causes in and around Bedford, and contributes to the Masonic Charitable Foundation, which helps Freemasons and their families and gives grants to many non-Masonic charities.
Members also take part in the Province of Bedfordshire's Festival appeal for the Masonic Charitable Foundation.
We are working to increase the Lodge's presence in the wider community through local charitable activity, so that more people in Bedford and Kempston see Freemasonry's commitment to charity and service at first hand.
Within the Lodge, our Almoner, Bro Oneal Thomas, keeps in touch with members, widows and families who may need support.
The Lodge also maintains its own charitable fund, the Sir William Harpur Lodge No. 2343 Masonic Benevolent Association, registered with the Charity Commission.
